Field log

Photography, trails and small electronics projects.

Rebuilding a cheap weather station

The stock humidity sensor drifted by almost 8% after one winter. Swapping it for an SHT41 and adding a small radiation shield made the readings track the reference station within 2%.

Autumn light on the ridge

Late-afternoon side light finally made the rock textures readable. A 1/3 stop of underexposure kept the sky from clipping; everything else came back in post.

Notes on battery logging

Sampling every 30 seconds was overkill. Five-minute intervals gave the same discharge curve and stretched the logger runtime from nine days to almost six weeks.
